October 25, 1955 when the FEU Hospital was established. It also marked the beginning of a new era in Morayta. The Department of Anesthesiology was born with Dr. Leoncio J. Yatco as chairman, handpicked by the late
Dr. Ricardo L. Alfonso, the first hospital director when they trained together in the United States. Dr. Eugenio R. Garcia who graduated that same year from UST, was the first resident ever of the Department, whom Dr. Yatco personally nurtured and trained to ensure that incoming residents will not grope their way around, but instead they will have enough knowledge to tide them over, until they have mastered the intricacies and finer points of the specialty.
The hospital started with two operating rooms and two delivery rooms which expanded in the early 60's to make four operating rooms. The first medical graduates debuted in 1957 with Dr. Edilberto Valcos, popularly known as "Tatang" as the first alumnus to get into the Department, but it took him two years to make up his mind whether to finally go into Anesthesiology. In 1959, he finally decided to embrace the specialty and make it his lifelong career. He is still active professionally. Dr Eligio Casile, who graduated in 1959, came in the same year and is one of our most successful alumnus in the specialty, but finally retired last year in the US after a similarly successful career.
Dr. Eugenio Garcia took over the Department in 1987 when Dr.Yatco handed over the helm and finally decided to retire, totally detached from the humdrums and vagaries of practice, and to finally savor the fruits of his labor which was well spent and worthy of emulation.
Dr. Roberto V. Querimit assumed the Chairmanship of the Department in March of 1987 until he retired in 1999 spending thirteen years of fruitful stewardship in the Department. Dr. Noe P. San Jose took over and assumed responsibility, full of hope and expectations of more things to come that our previous chairpersons have dreamed and wished for.
Dedicated to the relief and control of physical pain through safe administration of anesthetics, using the most advanced techniques and methods.
FEU-NRMF's Department of Anesthesiology makes available to all patients, regardless of social status, the most advanced techniques and methods in pain control and relief through anesthesia, from induction to emergence and post-operatively.
Careful assessment and evaluation of the patient's anesthetic needs are done as part of the team's overall concern for the individual's well-being and safety. The latest and most modern equipment in anesthesiology, as well as highly-trained staff and medical experts, ensure that physical pain is managed and relieved.
General or regional anesthesia are provided for patients who undergo major or minor operations that will entail intra-operative or post-operative pain. Equipment for prolonged post-operative control are available, such as the PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia), a computer-monitored apparatus that administers the exact amount of analgesics suited for the patient, and provides complete or almost total pain relief.
Monitors for oxygen saturation are present in the operating rooms, to ensure that patients under anesthesia while in surgery are properly oxygenate and will not suffer oxygen deprivation. Other equipment include the Capnogram, which monitors the right amount of carbon dioxide in the body's system; and the Seeing Stylet, an equipment only FEU-NRMF Medical Center has in this part of Asia, which enables patients who cannot be operated on in other hospitals because of failed endotracheal intubation to be treated.
Other services include the Pain Clinic, which offers treatment for the relief of intractable pain of malignancies (cancer), traumatic conditions, and the like.
